Surprise: Honda Says Global Cycle, ATV Sales Nearly Flat in 2009

Japan’s Honda Motor Co. Ltd. says it sold 15,042,000 motorcycles and ATVs in 2009, down compared to 15,124,000 units in 2008.

The OEM says sales in North America in 2009 totaled 204,000 units, down 47.8 percent compared to 391,000 units in 2008; sales in South America totaled 1,387,000 units, down compared to 1,721,000 units; sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa totaled 261,000 units, down compared to 354,000 units; sales in China totaled 1,303,000 units, down compared to 1,354,000 units; and sales in Asia and Oceania totaled 11,702,000 units, up compared to 11,054,000 units.

Honda says it produced 14,823,000 motorcycles and ATVs last year, down compared to 15,392,000 units in 2008.
