Japan’s Big Four Slashed Shipments to the U.S. 57% in 2009

The four major powersports vehicle manufacturers in Japan produced 644,901 units in 2009, down 47 percent compared to 1,226,839 units produced in 2008. Exports to the United States last year totaled 160,655 units, down 57 percent compared to 372,362 units in ‘08.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) says Honda produced 196,179 units in 2009, down compared to 337,339 units in 2008; Kawasaki produced 123,146 units, down compared to 191,337 units; Suzuki produced 161,640 units, down compared to 349,604 units; and Yamaha produced163,865 units, down compared to 348,465 units.
