Is Dealer Expo Worth the Expense in 2010?

The powersports Dealer Expo takes place in Indianapolis from Feb. 12-15. Traditionally a place for dealers to visit with product suppliers and manufacturers, the event this year will be noticeably smaller.

A member of one of my Linked In groups wanted to know from dealers and suppliers how their interest and participation in this year’s convention changed versus years past.

“I have been doing a bit of marketing/sales consulting for a couple of dealers in the SE and they seem to be ambivalent about attending this year,” he wrote. “They cite travel cost and time out of the store outweighing benefits of attending.”

My answer: “Likely a common feeling for dealers this year (once there, you'll notice many supplier companies that previously showcased their wares in Indy had the same thought).

“With sales the way they are, it may be better for your clients to invest those funds in local advertising and events. They can survey customers and peruse social media to find PG&A trends, and they can use supplier websites and reps to find new, asked-for products.”

for those of us who didn't make it to the show, could you do a blog about the new products that debuted this year? We usually attend just to see the new stuff...thanks man!
